English in Action: Baseline Study Reports in Bangladesh

Prior to the implementation of the English in Action program in Bangladesh, a series of baseline studies assessed the condition and quality of English language instruction in the national education system. A total of six reports were produced:

  1. An assessment of spoken English competence among school students, teachers and adults in Bangladesh
  2. Socio-linguistic factors: Motivations for learning English and demand in the work place
  3. An observation study of English lessons in primary and secondary schools in Bangladesh
  4. An audit of current materials for teaching English in Bangladesh
  5. An audit of a range of English language teacher training and adult provision
  6. The technology environment in Bangladesh
